'Yu Hong: Islands of the Mind' exhibition catalogue now published by Lisson Gallery
14 October 2024
Lisson Gallery is pleased to announce the publication of Yu Hong: Islands of the Mind, a catalogue published on the occasion of the artist’s first solo exhibition in London.
Based between Beijing and New York, Yu Hong, who has been described as one of the most important voices of her generation, unveils a selection of poignant and poetic paintings that each explore a distinctive state of mind or consciousness. Inspired by Arnold Böcklin’s Island of the Dead (1880-1901), this suite of paintings expands on the body of work unveiled in Yu Hong’s solo exhibition Yu Hong: Night Walk at the SCAD Museum of Art, Savannah in 2023, and follows her first major exhibition in Europe, where she transformed the Chiesetta della Misericordia in Venice through a series of new works, organised by The Asian Art Initiative of the Guggenheim Museum, New York.
This fully-illustraged pubication features works and installation photographs from both 'Yu Hong: Islands of the Mind' at Lisson Gallery (2024) and 'Yu Hong: Night Walk' at the SCAD Museum of Art (2023). It includes a preface by Greg Hilty, Partner at Lisson Gallery, and a comprehensive essay on this body of works by Daniel S. Palmer, Chief Curator at the SCAD Museum of Art.
The hardback book opens up to reveal two sections: the main book block on the left and a pocket on the right containing a booklet of loose preparatory sketches and three 1:10 scale concertinas.
Book design by Wolfe Hall.
