Watch a livestream of Ai Weiwei's hour-long film work for CIRCA
31 October 2020
The full-length film commission created by Ai Weiwei for the CIRCA public art project will be screened this Saturday 31 October across the digital billboards in Piccadilly Circus and via livestream on YouTube. Two minute-long excerpts of the hour-long film have been shown each night throughout the month of October as part of CIRCA, which sees Europe’s largest billboard pause its usual adverts for two minutes every night to screen a digital artwork. The inaugural commission by Ai Weiwei reflects on our current moment in time with a new film that “begins from the year [he] was born through to the current unceasing pandemic threatening the human condition globally”. Through various sections that trace the artist's time living in New York City in the 1980s and his art and activity in the following two decades spent in Beijing, to more recent projects documenting the journeys of refugees, the final film work provides a powerful survey of Ai's life and work.
