Dexter Dalwood in conversation at The National Gallery in London, 4 October
30 September 2024
On Friday 4 October, Dexter Dalwood will be in conversation at London's National Gallery, as part of the Unexpected Views series of Friday Lates talks.
Unexpected views are monthly conversations between our curators and some of the most important cultural practitioners of today, with discussions focusing on a selected masterpiece from the National Galleru's Collection. By allowing for new discussions of old works, the series aims for critical, counter-intuitive and joyful approaches to our collection, which reflect the breadth of contemporary artistic practice.
Dexter Dalwood’s paintings and prints are collages of visual imagery from art history, personal memory and political and cultural events from the past. His work reinterprets the genre of History Painting for a contemporary audience. This talk will focus on Dalwood’s relationship to ‘English Painting’ and its history, which is also the title of his current exhibition at the Lisson Gallery, London.
Friday 4 October, 6pm BST
