'Ryan Gander: One Hundred Things Twice' at Salzburger Kunstverein, Salzburg, Austria

From 25 July, 2026 – 20 September, 2026, Ryan Gander's One Hundred Things Twice presents itself as an inventory of possible realities: things that can be rethought again and again. Developed for the Salzburger Kunstverein's annual program CAPTCHA Realism, the exhibition unfolds through pairs, echoes, near-coincidences, and subtle shifts.

Classical logic teaches us that everything either is or is not. A body is either here or there. A statement is either true or false. Yet Ryan Gander's practice has long been dedicated to precisely those moments when this certainty begins to waver. His works often play with the brief moment before a meaning solidifies, they ask what happens when a thing cannot be exhausted by a single description.

In quantum theory, an object can theoretically exist in several states at once. Something similar happens in One Hundred Things Twice. A thing that exists twice is not a copy. It can be an echo, an afterimage, a front and a back, a left and a right, a beginning and an end. One has happened; the other almost. One thing is before you; another version of it begins to take shape in your memory. Thus, the exhibition is less a collection of stable things than a network of relationships between them.
