Judd Foundation to unveil new installation by Richard Long
6 September 2016
Judd Foundation will unveil a new temporary installation by Richard Long at their New York location this October. Two large-scale works created through the use of a terracotta slip will extend the length of the foundation's building at 101 Spring Street.
Donald Judd had great admiration for Long’s radical work. In 1988, after an exhibition in Reykjavik, Iceland, Judd acquired and permanently installed Long’s work, Sea Lava Circles at The Chinati Foundation in Marfa, Texas. Located on a concrete platform that was previously used as a tennis court, Sea Lava Circles is made from volcanic rock collected by Long while in Iceland.
For the installation at the Judd Foundation in New York, Long will use a terracotta slip to make large-scale works, measuring nearly 60 in length, that extend the length of the building. Curated by Flavin Judd, the installation is part of a series that aims to highlight and contextualise the interrelated aspects of Judd’s work and that of his contemporaries.
The installation will be open to the public on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 1-5.30pm, 1 October until 17 December 2016. For more information, please visit: http://juddfoundation.org/
