Richard Deacon 'In Search of Something' at The Modern Gallery, Podgorica, Montenegro

11 February 2025

Until 21 February 2025, The Modern Gallery in Podgorica, Montenegro presents ‘In Search of Something’ an exhibition of Richard Deacon’s works.

This exhibition marks the first time these works will be shown to the public. These sculptures were created during the pandemic with limited resources. A central theme of the exhibition is the isolation of that period, during which the artist spent time contemplating the human experience, how we interact with the natural world and the footprints we leave behind once we are no longer a part of it.

Richard Deacon’s voluptuous abstract forms have placed him at the forefront of British sculpture since the 1980s and, hugely influential, his works are visible in major public commissions around the world. His voracious appetite for material has seen him move between laminated wood, stainless steel, corrugated iron, polycarbonate, marble, clay, vinyl, foam and leather. As he explains: “Changing materials from one work to the next is a way of beginning again each time (and thus of finishing what had gone before)”.
