Pilane Sculpture Park celebrates 15th anniversary with Sean Scully exhibition
18 June 2021
This year, Pilane Sculpture Park in Tjörn, Sweden, celebrates its 15th year with the solo exhibition 'Standing on the Land', which consists of six monumental sculptures by Sean Scully, on view until 26 September 2021.
Scully's Stack sculptures installed across the Park correspond with his ongoing series of Landline paintings, in which he seeks to reintroduce nature onto the canvas, and endeavours to “integrate all the parts” of the horizon – physical and philosophical, poetic and pastoral. The same basic sculptural shape of the horizon line is repeated, while their varying materials convey a range of emotions.
The Stack works on view at Pilane – Pale Stack, Venice Sleeper and Moor Shadow Stack – sit alongside the Air Cage, Zinc Tanks and Tower Two Holes works in Corten and Galvanized steel, and intertwine with the landscape at Pilane, aplifying the structures' combinations of the abstract and the architectural; the robust and the simple; and the concrete and the mysterious.
