'Otobong Nkanga. I dreamt of you in colors' at the Cantonal Museum of Fine Arts, Lausanne, Switzerland
2 March 2026
From 3 April – 23 August 2026, the Cantonal Museum of Fine Arts in collaboration with the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris, presents a major exhibition devoted to the work of Otobong Nkanga.
The artist delves into questions related to mining, the exploitation of natural resources, and the body's relationship to space and the earth. She examines these complex social, political, and material relationships, producing drawings, paintings, installations, tapestries, photographs, videos, sculptures, ceramics, performances, sound pieces, and poetry through a multidisciplinary practice.
Drawing on her personal history and research, which reveals multiple transhistorical and multicultural influences, she creates networks and constellations between human beings and landscapes while exploring the restorative capacity of natural and relational systems. The notion of strata is central to the artist's work—both in the materiality of her sculptures, interventions, performances, and tapestries, and in her way of thinking about the relationships between bodies and the land—relationships of exchange and mutual transformation.
