'Daniel Buren: Going for a Walk in a Zig-zag' at EMMA Museum, Espoo
28 February 2022
A newly developed installation by Daniel Buren will take over the exhibition space at Espoo Museum of Modern Art in Espoo, Finland throughout the spring of 2022, in a show titled 'Going for a Walk in a Zigzag'.
Buren is known for his 'in situ' interventions, controversial critical texts, thought-provoking public art projects and engaging collaborations, and he builds on the horizontal and open features of the museum’s architecture, along with its natural light, in this new presentation. The installation creates new spaces inside the museum – some featuring Daniel's early works – and unexpected views to the outside.
Along with the exhibition, interventions and events by Buren will take place throughout the run of the show. His performance 'Les Couleurs superposées' (Superimposed Colours) to be held on 6 March. Staged many times since its 1982 debut, the piece features people pasting and tearing sheets of striped paper from a wall following instructions given by the artist. In advacne of the exhibition, Buren's signatues stripes populated more than 300 digital billboards across the cities of Helsinki and Espoo.
The exhibition is curated by Arja Miller in collaboration with the Director of the Danish art agency Creator Projects, Simon Friese.
'Daniel Buren: Going for a Walk in a Zigzag' runs from 2 March – 7 July 2022. Find further information via EMMA
