Manchester International Festival opens with projects by Laure Prouvost and Rashid Rana
5 July 2021
Manchester International Festival is now underway, with events, exhibitions and performances taking place across the city until 18 July.
Among the projects commissioned for the Festival are ambitions installations by Laure Prouvost and Rashid Rana. At Manchester Jewish Museum, Prouvost presents 'The Long Waited, Weighted Gathering'. A major installation unearthing the long-lost voices of the women who once found comfort and community within the Museum's walls, during its time as a synagogue, this immersive exhibition features a new film, sound works and textiles – created with the museum’s very own women’s textiles group.
At Dantzic, Rashid Rana unveils a far-reaching exhibition around his concept of EART – a term to describe moments of self-expression and creative practise inclusive of, but not limited to, the arts. A major element of this project is an anti-consumerist pop-up grocery store at nearby Sparklestreet.
