Major solo exhibition by Christopher Le Brun at Red Brick Art Museum in Beijing

The first solo museum exhibition of work by Christopher Le Brun in Asia opens 19 March at Red Brick Art Museum in Beijing.

Christopher Le Brun: A Sense of Sight, Abstract Work 1974-2020 features painting and sculpture spanning nearly 50 years, the largest survey of the artist's abstract work ever presented and featuring many never before seen works. In addition to seminal examples of his work from throughout his career, the exhibition includes loans from Le Brun's own archive and a selection of new paintings made especially for this presentation.

Christopher Le Brun has been a celebrated British painter, printmaker and sculptor since the early 1980s; he was also an instrumental public figure in his role as President of the Royal Academy of Arts in London from 2011 to 2019, and as a trustee of major British art institutions such as Tate, National Gallery, and the National Portrait Gallery in London. He received a Knighthood in the 2021 New Year Honours List, for his services to the arts.

Of the exhibition in Beijing, Le Brun notes: "A Sense of Sight is the first exhibition to show the long development of the abstract in my work and the first to reveal the essentially formal nature of my work as an artist. When I visited the Red Brick Museum in early 2020, I was struck by the strength of Mr Yan’s involvement and personal vision for art in his museum. As an artist I equally depend on a strong personal vision, so when I experienced his sympathetic and appreciative eye, the invitation to collaborate was irresistible."
