Lisson's Spotlight Screenings programme continues with Susan Hiller's 'The Last Silent Movie'
6 April 2020
Lisson Gallery's season of Screenings continues with Susan Hiller’s powerful and moving piece, The Last Silent Movie (2007), constructed from archival recordings of dead or dying languages, the speaking voices translated into subtitles that play against a black screen. The work marks an important milestone in Hiller’s career-long investigation into areas of culture that are marginalised, suppressed, or – literally in this case – rendered invisible.
Based on themes of ‘Excess/access/absence’ – about feast and famine, about glut versus lack and about connections made and broken, these first six films are available in full, for one week only.
