Lisson Gallery at Taipei Connections, 2 – 10 May
29 April 2020
Lisson Gallery is pleased to participate in Taipei Connections, a digital platform for Taipei Dangdai participating galleries, organised in partnership with Ocula and on view from 2 – 10 May.
The presentation will include works by Julian Opie, Bernard Piffaretti and Stanley Whitney — artists who share a painterly approach and investigation of the fundamentals of art history, despired their varied pracites. Bernard Piffaretti bases his practice on repetition while analysing the components of painting. The work on view at Taipei Connections exemplifies his signature duplication method of graphic, abstract composition. Stanley Whitney's practice highlights the enduring qualities of colour. This format — stacked irregular rectangles of colour laid down sequentially — is influenced by sources ranging from Roman architecture to free jazz. Julian Opie’s work evokes both a visual and spatial experience of the everyday in portraiture, echoing the colours and shapes he observes in his travels around the world. Opie’s varied practice includes semi-sculptural wall-based works in auto paint, like those presented, as well as traditional sculpture, animations and LED works.
Visit the Taipei Connections website for details and more information on how to register.
