Laure Prouvost presents ‘Mère We Sea’ at Contour Biennale, Mechelen, 5 September – 1 November 2026

Opening on 5 September as part of Contour Biennale in Mechelen, Belgium, Laure Prouvost presents ‘Mère We Sea’, a monumental, site-responsive installation that transforms the chapel of De Noker, a former religious and care institution, into a fluid environment suspended between memory, dream and marine imagination. At the centre of the work, a sculptural form is surrounded by rotating mobiles and glass elements, while light and sound move through the architecture to evoke both the intimacy of the womb and the vastness of the sea.

Known for her immersive and mixed-media installations, Laure Prouvost’s practice spans film, sculpture, sound, performance and language, bringing together found objects, architectural elements and tactile assemblages to create environments in which fiction and reality become intertwined. Her work explores miscommunication and the slippages between words, images and meaning, using wordplay, montage and associative storytelling to confound linear narratives and open up new possibilities for the imagination.
