Devon Turnbull (OJAS), the Lisson Gallery and Spiritmuse Records are excited to present two unique evenings with Kahil El’Zabar as part of the HiFi Listening Room Dream No. 1 and other works.
The legendary multi-percussionist, composer and educator will bring his unique sound, powerful heritage and wealth of experience to these two intimate, rare, solo performances – from 6.30pm, 20th & 21st July at Lisson London – in collaboration with Turnbull's Super natural #1 (2023) sound system.
Performing and recording at the vanguard of Chicago’s musical scene for the past five decades, Kahil El’Zabar’s impact on jazz, avant-garde music and beyond is significant. Known firstly as a drummer & percussionist, El’Zabar is also a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, bandleader, singer, composer, conductor, arts curator and educator. His pioneering sound, sometimes described as “spiritual groove”, incorporating African instrumentation and musical traditions with spiritual jazz, has been incredibly influential upon jazz musicians, producers of electronic music and so many musicians from around the world who have experimented with mixing traditional and contemporary music.
This is an exclusive opportunity to experience an intimate solo performance by the spiritual jazz master, showcasing his multi-percussion mastery of the kalimba, cajon and jazz drums, that’s known for enthralling and engaging audiences with his huge energy and healing sounds.
Please click through to Eventbrite here for tickets, priced at £20, for Thursday or Friday evening performances. All proceeds go to the musician.
