Julian Opie sculptures are currently on display around the city of Valencia
2 August 2021
In an exhibition organized by the Hortensia Herrero Foundation, the work of Julian Opie is presented for the first time in Valencia. The show comprises sixteen pieces installed at Colegio del Patriarca Square and La Nau Cultural Centre, which focuses on the human figure in motion, walking through the city, alone or in the middle of a crowd; strolling; running to catch a train; or waiting in the square, arms crossed.
The pieces on display in the streets of Valencia’s city centre are intended to bring contemporary art to residents. For this project, the artist has created two steel sculptures twelve metres in height and weighing six tonnes, which occupy Colegio del Patriarca Square. Nearby is a sculptural group made up of four walkers over two metres in size, based on Opie's observations of anonymous people walking along the street.
The works are on display until 19 September 2021.
