Jack Pierson in conversation at The Bass, Miami, 23 February

15 February 2025

Book tickets via The Bass

On Sunday 23 February, Jack Pierson will be in conversation with Rachel Feinstein in Miami, as part of The Bass Dialogues Public Program. Moderated by James Voorhies, The Bass Chief Curator, The Bass Dialogues presents conversations with artists and curators shaping the current landscape of contemporary art. This conversation will delve into Rachel Feinstein: The Miami Years, the artist’s current exhibition at The Bass, exploring its significance within her broader practice. Pierson and Feinstein will also reflect on their shared experiences of living in Miami during the 1980s, discussing how the city's cultural landscape influenced their artistic trajectories and creative processes.

Emerging from the 1980s milieu of the Boston School of documentarian photographers, Pierson was instead drawn into a world of gendered, punk-influenced performativity, and was greatly influenced by the more tactile work of his friend, Mark Morrisroe. Pierson's move to New York via stays in Miami and Los Angeles saw the evolution of staging in his work. Depicting recollections of autobiographical nights out and days in the studio, he constructed melancholic sets of half-remembered experiences and occasional, ironic gestures of self-portraiture. The artist’s mode of non-hierarchical cultural compilation and a process of impulse-led editing allows Pierson to create personal and universal narratives across his multidisciplinary practice.

This will be the first talk of the 2025 season and is free to attend.
