'ImPOSSIBLE' with Anish Kapoor at Museum Frieder Burda, Baden-Baden, Germany
10 March 2024
From 2 March — 26 May 2024, Museum Frieder Burda presents 'ImPOSSIBLE' featuring Anish Kapoor. 'ImPOSSIBLE' shows how art and its multifarious modes of expression can give form to phenomena that are unattainable in reality.
This exhibition pays homage to the power of the imaginary and presents artworks that envision the impossible as an alternative way of approaching our increasingly deceptive reality—with a healthy dose of irony and humor. The show explores the very foundations of art and image-making, delving into the belief in art’s power and potential for displacing and creating everything—places and times, the proportions of things and their interconnections—anew.
Featured in this exhibition at Museum Frieder Burda are two works from Anish Kapoor's Non-Object Black series of works using Vantablack nano-technology – so dark that it absorbs more than 99.8% of visible light. Works from this series were first exhibited in the artist's major dual-site exhibition across the Gallerie dell'Accademia and Palazzo Manfrin in Venice in 2022.
