8 October 2025
Garrett Bradley has been named a 2025 MacArthur Fellow, for harnessing the full potential of moving images to evoke feeling and render the textures of her subjects’ lives.
At the heart of the MacArthur Fellows Program is its aim to identify extraordinarily creative individuals with a track record of excellence in a field of scholarship or area of practice, who demonstrate the ability to impact society in significant and beneficial ways through their pioneering work or the rigor of their contributions.
Garrett Bradley is an artist and filmmaker blending elements of documentary, narrative, and experimental cinema to explore questions of justice, public memory, and cultural visibility. She often incorporates archival material into her works, and her creative process involves close collaboration with the individuals whose stories she tells on screen. With a distinctive style, she presents her subjects’ stories and voices from an intimate and deeply empathetic perspective.
