Frieze Sculpture to feature Pedro Reyes at Rockefeller Center NYC
11 April 2019
Frieze Sculpture's first presentation in New York will feature works by artist Pedro Reyes. Curated by Brett Littman (Director of the Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum), the launch of Frieze Sculpture at the Rockefeller Center follows the established annual programme in London's Regents Park, and will include works by 14 leading international artists. Opening 25 April through 28 June, 2019
This will be Reyes’ first Public Art presentation in NYC. Two artworks Jaguar, 2019, and Seer, 2019 will be placed inside 30 Rockefeller Plaza where Diego Rivera’s original mural was removed in 1934, for including an image of Vladimir Lenin and was replaced with Jose Maria Sert’s American Progress (1937). Thus visitors will be invited to witness a major historical moment of censorship, and a continuation of Reyes’ social and political activism.
