Devon Turnbull is showcasing his Listening Rooms at 180 Studios and SFMOMA. 'The Vinyl Factory - Reverb' at 180 Studios includes Turnbull's Hi-fi Listening Room Dream No.1, which offers a tranquil space within the exhibition for listening to vinyl with a diverse selection of unheard music, including exclusive test pressings and studio outtakes. SFMOMA's 'Art of Noise' showcases Turnbull's Hi-fi Pursuit Listening Room Dream No. 2, an immersive audio installation that allows visitors to experience high-fidelity music playback on a custom-built sound system.
From 4 May – 18 August, 180 Studios presents 'The Vinyl Factory - Reverb', a major multimedia exhibition exploring the intersection of art and sound. The Vinyl Factory brings together over 100 artists and musicians working across mediums including visual arts, music, film and live performance. The exhibition features new site-specific audio-visual installations and sonic experiences, commissioned by The Vinyl Factory, from artists including Theaster Gates, Es Devlin, Julianknxx and Caterina Barbieri with UK premieres of artworks by Kahlil Joseph, Stan Douglas, Virgil Abloh and Cecilia Bengolea, and installations by Jeremy Deller, William Kentridge, Jenn Nkiru, Hito Steyerl, Carsten Nicolai and Gabriel Moses.
From 23 May – 28 September, SFMOMA presents 'Art of Noise', a multi-sensory ode to how design has changed the way we’ve experienced music over the past 100 years. This exhibition explores 400+ San Francisco psychedelic rock posters, featuring legendary bands such as the Grateful Dead. The show presents graphic design by Milton Glaser and mid-century modern album covers, as well as hip-hop, punk, and rave flyers complete this expansive display of incredible color and creativity.
