Cory Arcangel in group show at Kunstraum Kreuzberg

27 May 2020

Kunstraum Kreuzberg in Berlin has reopened to visitors with its group exhibition 'Entry Into a Living Being: From Social Sculpture to Platform Capitalism'. The show brings together works created over the past forty years by 30 artists and collectives, to explore the relationship between social sculpture and the rise of platform capitalism, and how this has been reflected in art.

Cory Arcangel's publication Working on my Novel and video work Ideas In Action (starbucks.com), both made in 2014, are featured in the show. For Working on my Novel, Arcangel began a Twitter account which would automatically re-post any other user's Tweet containing the phrase 'working on my novel'. Exploring the extremes of making art, from satisfaction and even euphoria to those days or nights when nothing will come, the work is about the act of creation and the gap between the different ways in which we express ourselves today. Whilst the Twitter account remains live as a digital archive, the resulting publication containing a selection of the Tweets is available to purchase here.

Ideas In Action (starbucks.com) is on in a series of similar projects by Arcangel that consist of deep-dives into the web-presence of large American corporations, which this time sees the artist take a trawl through the community forums on starbucks.com. The work is also available to view on Arcangel's YouTube channel.
