Lisson Gallery at artmonte-carlo 2024

26 June 2024

Lisson Gallery is pleased to be participating for the first time in artmonte-carlo, now in its eighth edition. The gallery will be showcasing a selection of work from their roster of artists, including Christopher Le Brun, Tony Cragg, Ryan Gander, Carmen Herrera, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Yu Hong, Anish Kapoor, Laure Prouvost and Wael Shawky, among others.

In conjunction with the artist’s first exhibition at Lisson Gallery New York (on show until 2 August), Hiroshi Sugimoto presents Opticks 559 (2023) at Lisson Gallery’s artmonte-carlo booth, from his series of large-scale photographic prints which rely on a prism to split ‘white’ light into its seven constituent colours and many more gradations and shades in between. In addition, Anish Kapoor’s blue-coloured mirror work, entitled Oriental Blue to Clear (2023) is exhibited, alongside Yu Hong’s Brothers and Ran Away (both 2018), which construct modern-day fables and complex, allegorical compositions by channeling historical, narrative-driven art through a fiercely contemporary lens.

Further highlights include Christopher Le Brun’s September Three (2023), which employs a mastery of touch and colour alongside a profound understanding of art history, beside two works by Carmen Herrera from 2012 and 2015 that showcase an infinite variety of movement, rhythm and spatial tension across the canvas. Additionally, Tony Cragg’s In Frequencies (2020) blur the line between manmade and natural landscapes; and Ryan Gander’s I be… (lxxv) (2024) involves a questioning of language and knowledge, as well as a reinvention of both the modes of appearance and the creation of an artwork. Wael Shawky exhibits three sculptures entitled Cabaret Crusades III: The Secrets of Karbala (Static) (2014) which tackle notions of national, religious and artistic identity, and alongside her inaugural exhibition with Lisson Gallery in Shanghai (on show until 13 July), Laure Prouvost presents The Octopus Body - Becoming You, (2023), adorned with Prouvost's characteristic, playful imagery and use of language.
