Still Joy – from Ukraine into the World
Palazzo Contarini Polignac, Venice
Presented by the PinchukArtCentre and the Victor Pinchuk Foundation
9 April – 1 August 2026
The PinchukArtCentre and the Victor Pinchuk Foundation present the Still Joy – from Ukraine into the World Exhibition as an official collateral event of the 61th International Art Exhibition — La Biennale di Venezia. It will be held at the Palazzo Contarini Polignac in Venice from April 6th until August 1st, 2026.
The Still Joy project begins in Ukraine, where two story gatherers have collected testimonies about joy – the subtle and tender thirst to enjoy life even in its hardest moments. These stories become both the starting point and a disruptive agent, anchoring fragments of reality into the exhibition. Opposing the violence saturating our times, it presents emergence and sharing of joy as a radical act of humanity.
The project brings together a group of distinguished artists from Ukraine and abroad, including: Kateryna Aliinyk, Piotr Armianovski, Janet Cardiff & George Bures Miller, Julian Charrière, Tacita Dean, Ryan Gander, Gabrielle Goliath, Nikita Kadan, Zhanna Kadyrova, Alevtina Kakhidze, Roman Khimei & Yarema Malashchuk, Pavlo Kovach, Bogdana Kosmina, Katya Lesiv, Kateryna Lysovenko, Simone Post, Ashfika Rahman, Daniel Turner, Álvaro Urbano, Lesia Vasylchenko, Oleksiy Sai & Yury Gruzinov.
The exposition is unfolding like a dream, like falling into a rabbit hole. It includes images of rave scenes from Kyiv, from before and during the full-scale war, as captured by Kyiv-based artists and filmmakers Malashchuk & Khimei; it presents landscape painting by Aliinyk where tiny animal life vibrates under the soft glow of the moon; it offers a video essay by Armianovski about dreams seen by the city of Mariupol. The tour of this floor culminates in an immersive installation by Simone Post, who reimagines the palazzo’s interior with a sweet, ephemeral architectural installation made out of candy, inviting visitors to experience a moment of forbidden, almost childlike joy.
