Julian Opie’s various ‘walkers’ series have captured groups of pedestrians on the streets of cities across the world including Seoul, London and New York. Groups and pairs of walking figures are presented here both statically in paint on metal works, and moving through continuously looping LED screen animations. Most recently shown in a solo exhibition by Opie that inaugurated Lisson Gallery’s first permanent space in Beijing (19 November 2022 – 1 April 2023), two life-sized figures in polished stainless steel can be found reclining on the booth’s floor.
