Dana Awartani
London, 19 November 2026 – February 2027
Following her presentation representing Saudi Arabia in the 2026 Venice Biennale, Dana Awartani opens a new exhibition at Lisson London this November. Maintaining a deep commitment to craft and traditional art-making, Awartani addresses urgent political concerns such as cultural sustainability and the ongoing destruction of monuments globally. Across her practice, the artist initiates a process of healing through the active darning of holes in her work; punctures are spliced as metaphors for places that have been violated or destroyed in war, colonialism or acts of terror. This mending through darning also nods to the venerable tradition of repairing and revering objects, and speaks to the ethical act of repair over replacement.
